This is what the Lord says—
your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel :
“I am the Lord your God,
who teaches you what is best for you,
who directs you in the way you should go.”
ISAIAH 48:17 NIV

Everywhere we go we’re bombarded with messages. Signs directing us to our destination, instructing us, offering us information about this or that—our attention and mental energy is continuously pursued. I read a wall plaque recently that made me stop and think. The simple collection of words said, “This is where I belong.” It instantly rang true in my spirit. As one surrendered to Jesus, could there be a more accurate statement?

God is in control of our lives. He has imbued us with purpose. All in all—family, home, job, place of worship, friends, challenges—down to the details as seemingly trivial as the checkout line we choose at the grocery store, is directed by God. Our steps are not random but ordered, each one leading us to where He wants us to be. We are here for this time, for a specific reason, for the glory of an awesome God. There is love in every choice He makes for us, whether it comes by way of a smooth or difficult road. He will faithfully see to it that our path crosses the path of those in need of an encouraging word, a helping hand, or a loving deed—and He will tap into the unique set of gifts He’s given us to serve them. We are living, breathing, ‘messages’ to the world around us, and if our day begins with a prayer for God’s direction, our hearts should always feel confident in saying this is where I belong.
