They went out for the sake of the Name. III John 7

We enrolled our ninth grade daughter in the local public high school this year for the first time after years of home-schooling. We loved having her home and the opportunity for our three kids to bond—our other two children are in the next two grades—but we sensed it was time for her to grow in new ways through interacting with peers and professional educators who could invest in her life.

It was a big moment that first day and probably felt a lot like the first day of kindergarten for most kids. We all held hands and prayed that the Lord would go with her and give her opportunities to share her faith, making her a blessing for His glory.

God’s timing is perfect. That very afternoon, a tornado watch sent all the kids from their classrooms into the hallways for protection. There was some joking from some that ‘this was the end.’ In the midst of the chattering, the boy across the hall from my daughter asked her in a quiet voice, “Do you believe in God?”

What a blessing for her to be able to share her faith on her first day of school! And what a blessing for our family to experience such a direct answer to our simple prayer. We hope that for the rest of her life, she’ll remember that God gives us opportunities to shine for Him when we see ourselves as ‘going out for the sake of the Name.’

The Name is worthy of all that we are, all that we have, all that we can do. May you sense Jesus’ great pleasure in you as you go out for His Name’s sake.
