“Happy day, Poppy!”

Now that I’ve become a grandpa, or “Poppy” as I am known, I’m getting a little better picture of what our Heavenly Father thinks of us. I take great pride in my daughters and their husbands. And I can’t wait until the end of each day to hear how my son’s school and sports activities have gone that day. But when a little grandchild calls you “Poppy” for the first time, it just melts your heart. I think our Heavenly Father must feel that same heart tug when Jesus tells Him, “Here’s another one that has accepted Me as Savior.”

I recently got more involved with social networking online because that’s where my daughter and son-in-law are posting all their pictures and videos of our grandkids. Since we don’t live close, my wife and I are thrilled every time there is a new post and we can’t wait to hear what new thing our grandkids have said or learned. I think our Heavenly Father looks at us much the same way. He is thrilled to hear about our likes and even our dislikes. He loves to watch us grow and learn more about this big world He’s put us in. He enjoys hearing about each new adventure we experience. I can imagine at times He’s even thinking, “I’m glad you like watching that little centipede. I made it just for you.”

So on this Father’s Day, I encourage you to take time to visit with your dad if you can and let him know you care. I also hope you have some time to think about our Heavenly Father as a perfect example of a dad or grandpa who just loves to hear about every detail of your life because He loves and cares for you so much.
