Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. PSALM 37:4 NIV

I had been invited to a “ladies day out” with some friends from church this past weekend. I was eager to spend time pampering myself, resting, and building relationships. Most of all, I was looking forward to removing myself from the things of this world that have been weighing heavily on me.

Unfortunately, the day did not go as I thought it should. I spent five hours listening to the miserable events in everyone else’s lives and offering support. My first reaction was, “Why does this always happen to me? Why can’t I just have one day of relaxation?”

As I talked to my husband later that night, I simply stated, “I need someone in my life that doesn’t need me, but wants me.” What’s so hard about that?! So, my husband and I began thinking of other ladies that I had not yet built relationships with that may fill this need of mine.

The next morning, as I walked into church, I began to cry. The answer was staring me in the face. No matter how many friends I make on this earth, at some time every one will need me. There is only one that will never need me, yet always want me. God! He doesn’t need me. He’s the Creator of all things and King of all. But He created me to have a relationship with Him. He actually wants me!

No matter how many times I read His word, pray, attend church, and do all the right things, I still let this one promise slip away from my thoughts. I need God to break me and remind me of this.

Recently, I was reminded how God must experience this same longing. How often do we enter into His presence for the simple reason of wanting to spend time with Him? How often do we come to Him with our list of needs and wants? Take a moment today to bask in His glory and worship Him for who He is and always will be.
