The First Blessing
God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number.” GENESIS 1:22 NIV
This verse is often talked about in reference
to having children. But it was actually spoken before Adam
and Eve were even created. So why did God choose this to be
His very first blessing? I believe it gives us a glimpse into
His character. To me, it says that God loves growth. He desires
for us to flourish and fulfill the plan He has for us. Do
you have a dream that God has placed in your heart? If so,
it is His desire to bless it and see it come to pass. Do you
have a talent that God has given you? If so, He wants to increase
it and help you use it to carry out His plan. Whatever
God has created in our lives, He wants to bless and grow.
That doesn’t mean things will always go our way or work out
like we think they should. Sometimes God’s idea or timing
of a blessing is very different from ours. What it does mean
is that we can trust that God’s plan for us is ultimately
good, and He will enable us to fulfill it. That’s a promise
we can believe in, a blessing we can stand on for whatever
God is doing in our lives.
Lord,
Whatever You have created in the heart
of the one who is reading this right now,
I pray that You will bless and increase it.
Cause all things to work together for good
so that Your perfect plan is fulfilled.
Thank You that from the very beginning,
You have been a God of blessing
and You still are today.
Amen.
