As for God, His way is perfect; the word of the Lord is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him. PSALM 18:30 NIV

Upon every life, rain must fall...

Sometimes by way of a gentle, steady, shower; other times in the form of a fast-moving, tumultuous thunderstorm; and ever so often through sudden, unexpected cloudbursts that shatter our calm and send us scrambling for cover. No matter how the rain comes on any given day, it is a necessary element for growth, cleansing, refreshing, and renewal.

Just as the earth benefits from rain, so do our spirits grow and bear fruit by watering. It’s impossible to produce a clear reflection of love, a true example of kindness, or a genuine likeness of Christ without first allowing the word of God to take root in our hearts. And roots need moisture. Even when rainy days become prolonged periods of gray skies and we wonder how long the trial will last...how difficult the test will get...or how much “watering” is needed for us to become fruitful...one thing is certain: God in His wisdom will provide the delicate balance that is essential to our growth and His glory.

While we know the only way to identify with Christ on an intimate level is by going through pain as He did, He would want us to learn to diligently seek the same refuge He did as well—God the Father. It is perhaps during the rainy seasons that we press in closest to Him for shelter, comfort, warmth, and security. God knows we cannot become beautiful in sunshine alone. His way is perfect, His timing indisputable, His love undeniable, and His faithfulness infallible.

He is the Rain that washes, waters, and renews...the Refuge that shelters, warms, and protects...and the Bright Morning Star that dawns brilliantly at storm’s end. He is, with every breath we take, our all in all—just as we are, with every single raindrop, infinitely precious to Him.
