Take Time to Celebrate Life
God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it He rested from all the work of creating that He had done. GENESIS 2:3 NIV
Day seven comes and creation is completed. God says, “It is very good.” Then He rests. In Hebrew, the meaning of the word “rest” is related to “repose.” In other words, God relaxed! He didn’t move on to the next project. He didn’t check his list for what came next. He stopped to enjoy what He had done. In Hebrew, the word “rest” is also related to the word “celebrate.” So that may have been what God was doing on that seventh day—celebrating! God took time to savor the completion of creation.
Sometimes as Christians we feel guilty about doing the same when we finish something. We think we have to move on to the next thing. But God blesses those times. We can give ourselves permission to rejoice in what we’ve accomplished through the Lord. And although having a day of rest is important, this is a principle that we can apply every day.
Next time you complete something, allow yourself to relax and enjoy it. If you reach a fitness goal, celebrate! If you finish a project at work, rejoice! If God uses you in a special way to do something for Him, be glad! Let yourself embrace those moments, and imagine God joining you as you relax and celebrate what the two of you have completed together.
Lord,
Thank You that You
are a God who blesses
the completion of
good things in our lives.
Help me to take time to
enjoy and celebrate
all You do
in and through me.
Amen.
