A Journey of Faith

I’ve been on a journey of faith the last two and half years. It began the day my husband and I decided we wanted to have children. It continues even now since the Lord has not yet answered that prayer.

When I started this journey, I thought faith meant believing God would say “yes” to my requests for a child. Isn’t that what faith means—believing God will give us what we desire? When I doubted, I felt guilty. When I struggled with sadness and feeling betrayed by God, I felt as if I was not a good Christian.

But the more I walk this road, the more I find that faith is much deeper than what I first thought. Faith is not just believing God will give me what I want. Faith is believing God is good even if He never answers my prayer. Faith is not just asking God for my dreams to come true. Faith is coming to the point where I surrender to His will no matter what that means.

I still believe God can give me a child. But I no longer believe that is the only way He can answer my prayer. Faith is much deeper, wilder, and beyond my understanding than that. For me, faith is not believing I know how the journey will end—it’s finally coming to the place where I can say to God, “I will walk with you wherever the path may lead.”
